Why Have the Water Rates Gone Up?

Where do we start? As we all know a dollar doesn’t go nearly as far as it did just a few years ago, from buying groceries to heating or cooling your home, fueling up your car and everything in between.  The same is true for your water company. Chemicals like chlorine, fuel and electricity to power our pumps and equipment, water tests, and complying with new government regulations, just to name a few have all taken a major toll on the cost of producing water.  Since Mt. Konocti Mutual Water Company is a mutual water company, we can at least know that all the monies received through water rates go back into the operation of the water company, unlike PG&E or AT&T, which exist to make a profit.  Although the rate increases can be a hardship to our customers, they are unfortunately necessary to provide the community a safe and dependable drinking water supply. Some ways to keep your water bills as low as possible are to regularly check for leaks and use some of the conservation tips on our website www.mtkonoctimutualwater.com.
